The Meltham Olde Ale Trail was launched on Sunday 20th May 2018
From Loose Pulleys to Stiff Shackles, Meltham Walkers are Welcome have created a 4 mile walk around the village that will take in some of the places where many old curiously named beerhouses and inns were located.
At one point in the during the 1800’s there was up to 30 beerhouses and inns in the village of Meltham but in the 19thCentury the Temperance movement backed by local gentry, was fighting back against the drunkenness, gambling and fighting that they believed was caused by the drink.
Because of this many of the beerhouses closed, however thanks to research carried out by David Pattern of Huddersfield Exposed, Meltham Walkers are Welcome have created a village walk that will show people the location of these old inns and beerhouses and provide information about their history
